The American manufacturer announced Jan. 5 that it will modify the cooling system of the electric car. One way to address the investigation of road safety agency launched last November.
"GM today announced improvements to the vehicle structure and the cooling system of the battery of the Chevrolet Volt, which will provide additional protection against risk of electrical fire in the battery several days or weeks after a serious accident," said the American manufacturer.
This announcement responds somewhat to criticism by the road safety agency NHTSA issued in late November. She noted while the fire of the li-ion battery
of the Volt were important. , Even if no complaint of customers were previously filed. The investigation was launched after a lithium battery damaged by an impact resistance test was on fire.
"The Volt has always been safe. Now let's do more for peace of mind for customers in the days and weeks after a serious accident," said a group leader, Mary Barra.
For now, the agency believes that the solution proposed by General Motors is expected to solve the problem. Still, she said she will continue to monitor for a week the consequences of a test conducted on a car enjoying the new facilities announced by GM. General's investigation should take several weeks.
